Barbara Butterfield (Thomas)

From the Panama City (Florida) News Herald

Barbara Jane Butterfield Thomas

Barbara Jane Thomas, 68, of Panama City Beach, Florida, passed away April 22, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Weston, Florida, after a short illness.

She and her beloved husband, Tony, had just returned from a cruise through the Panama Canal when Barbara fell ill and became hospitalized at the end of the cruise. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Eleanor and Richard Butterfield.

Barbara, an Episcopalian who attended Grace Episcopal Church in Panama City Beach, is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Tony. Barbara always said Tony was the best thing that ever happened in her life. They enjoyed a beautiful life of family, friends, celebrations, shared tribulations and travel.

Barbara is also survived by her children and grandchildren and siblings; daughter, Lisa Johnston with daughters, Annelise (14), Keillor (12), and son, Richard (10) of Atlanta, Ga.; son, John Thomson and his wife, Jan, with daughter, Savannah Jane (13), and son, Caleb (10) of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter, Leslie Kravet and her husband, Scott, with their daughter, Layton (5), and Scott's children, Daniel (20) and Shayna (19) of Roslyn, New York; son, Robert Thomson and his wife, Laura, with their daughter, Blaire (3 days) of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Lynda (Karl) Hutzler; brother, Richard Butterfield; sisters, Eleanor Butterfield and Elizabeth Koch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a devoted and loving wife, mother and doting grandmother. She also doted on her "furry children," Brodie and Holly, her Sheltie dogs. Walking them each day gave Barbara a chance to talk with her neighbors and catch up on the neighborhood gossip.
Barbara took as much pleasure in planning her next destination as much as actually traveling. Her favorite destination was London, England. Barbara was a voracious reader, Weather Channel watcher and loyal friend. She had a smile for everyone and never met a stranger. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Humane Society of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to T.M. Ralph Funeral Home Sawgrass/Weston.

I was shocked to learn of Barbara's passing, and extend my deepest sympathy to her family.

Barbara lived two doors away from me on James St., Montclair, and we attended George Inness Jr. HS and Montclair HS together.  She always had a kind word and smile.  I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.  Brian Flynn.
