A memorable story about school or growing up in Montclair.

My father died when I was 10. My mother moved our family from Towanda, Pennsylvania back to Montclair to live with her parents on Lorraine Avenue. We lived in a tiny carriage house behind Granddad's house until Mom evenutally purchased a home on Wildwood Avenue - Mom, me, my brother Sheldon, and my sister, Lynn. I attended Montclair Academy and transferred to MHS.

Memories - I remember helping Michael Pecherer rebuild the engine of his '52 Ford; Weekend evening drives with buddies to Greenwich Village to hear newbie's perform at the Bitter End Coffee House: Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, Jose Feliciano, The Tarriers, Bill Cosby and others; Bowling at 3:00 a.m downhill on Eagle Rock Drive with David and a few nutsy gutsy buddies - David let fly a ball that we never recovered; Guitar lessons starting at the age of 14 with Bob Wilson in Upper Montclair - he taught me well; Jam sessions in the basement rec room of my mother's house on Wildwood Avenue; Driving my granddad's neat '48 stick shift Packard; Alice Bubriski - my favorite teacher. And, of course, drinking those Awful-Awful milkshakes with buddies at Bonds! A lot of bonds were formed at Bonds! ~

October 1, 2010 - An enjoyable afternoon and evening at Epcot, Disney World in Orlando. This was the first day of Epcot's annual International Food and Wine Festival. We strolled and sipped and snacked, attended an outdoor concert performed by Taylor Dayne (Spunky lady!) and watched an incredible 15 minute fireworks display!

October 1, 2010 - In the morning at a medical expo at Disney we met "The Fonz" - Henry Winkler of the 1970's TV show HAPPY DAYS. He was there plugging Botox, which was approved in March by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat spasms (spasticity) in the flexor muscles of the elbow, wrist and fingers in adults who have had a stroke.

I was employed by the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) in Tampa as the region's Government Relations Director until May 30, 2012 when budget cuts forced the elimination of my position. I continue to advocate for benefits for our veterans who have spinal cord injuries - and for non-veterans with disabilities. This photo was taken several years ago in Tallahassee. I was speaking with the late Admiral LeRoy Collins, Executive Director for the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, and former Miss Florida 2007, Kylie Williams, who works with the Florida DVA office to assist our Florida veterans. Veterans make up approximately 10% of Florida's population. Tampa is home to the nation's busiest VA Hospital.

Relaxing in our back yard by the swimming pool, pulling weeds. We have veggie gardens. The weeds grow faster than the veggies (sound familiar?) If we don't pick our pinapples as soon as they are ripe, the racoons and possums get them. Its a gnawing problem.

Hand cranking on the Friendship TrailBridge - a 2.6 mile long bridge over Tampa Bay that connects Tampa with St. Petersburg. This two lane highway bridge, built in 1956, was converted in 1999 to a hiking, biking, rollerblading fishing trail – the longest over-the-water recreation trail in the USA. Pictured with me are Alder and a couple of good buddies: Frank and Dinah Miller. Frank led the citizens’ group that saved the Bridge in 1997. The money slated for demolition was used to refurbish. But the Bridge was closed again for safety reasons in 2008. A new citizens’ group, led by two architects, is leading the charge to save & rebuild, estimated @ $25 - $30 million. To read more about the current bridge-saving efforts, go to: http://friendshiptrailbridge.com/
